12.12.12

Been ages since, but really need to have that subject line on my journals, just 'cause, so here I ramble.

I love twitter, but have never spent any time following something in 'real time' until yesterday when violence hit a mall in Oregon. Still staggered. Unreal. Makes me feel other.

What makes me feel connected to the world and happy is watching Mackiedockie writing in google docs. Nothing, nothing, nothing, then explosion! Words cascading down, a deluge! Preformance art, if there ever was. I'm honored to be witness. Lucky me.

Oh, and there never was a more perfect grandchild than mine.

I will just leave out the crap and call that the state of absolutely on 12.12.12.

PWFC Portland Con Bound

Packing! Of late, I have started loosing things rather spectacularly. My own little katana space. Wish I could figure out how to pull them back out to my plane of existence. My little note book with the pockets into which I stuffed baby pictures to show off at the con, gone. ((sigh)) Well I still have gazillions of pics on my laptop. I lost a whole unopened sack of dark chocolate chips a few days ago. And when I bought a new bag and baked the cookies I forgot the flour mixture in the first batch. So that's how they make butter brickle. I think I'll blame that one on Anya with whom I was chatting online at the time. Yeah, that one's Anya's fault.

Still raining. And the creeks are high. We are leaving extra early for the train in the morn just in case the freeway traffic goes psycho in the snow and rain. I apologized to my fellow convention goers for the Oregon weather on twitter this morning. We never did promise you dry, but we make up for with the beer.

Hope to see some of you soon.

Can I delete these files?

Brand new travel drive came with two folders and three other files on it and I'm wondering if I can just delete them. Anyone on my list know if any of this stuff is necessary?

*folder: club_application (contains 37 items)
*folder: SanDiskSecureAccess (contains 2 items)
*autorun.info
*RunClubSanDisk.exe
*RunSanDiskSecureAccess_Win.exe

Interestingly enough none of these file names make me feel the least bit secure.

it's all good

Sitting here in my easy, drinking a bloody abomination, while listened to a new voice. Sherlock has finally started talking to me. Been able to hear John Watson for awhile, and even Mycroft. Come along now Lestrade. Welcome to my hovel boys. Mac, Joe, even Methos have stilled...watching me struggle. Good timing for good times. Two paying docs to write, that old guardbear claiming to be 'original' and finally bread crumbs cast by the detective. It's all good.

Fic: "The Eyes Have It"

I wrote a bit of shiny pencil for Anya. She was been requesting Sherlock/Methos for sometime now, and though Methos is always willing, it was difficult to get Sherlock to agree to it...

Thanks very much to Mackiedockie for beta.

Have finished 95% of my crocheting for Christmas, and have a good start on my last gift story (Yes, Anya there will be shiny pencil for Christmas -- or at least by New Years.) Finally felt ahead of the game enough that I could read a couple of the yummy new Highlander stories at
Highlander Holiday ShortCuts

Won't get them all read before the reveal, but at least I'm ahead enough now I don't feel guilty about sneaking away to sample a few.

Also very excited that the bbc Sherlock is returning on New Years.

Happy Holidays!

A worthwhile article to read

This is really worth reading. Louise Brealey tweeted the link this morning. It's an article written by Henry Porter about and for his friend, writer Gilbert Adair. Link is to the Guardian.

Archiving

Time keeps marching....Today I switched out our companies old website from the Precambrian for a spiffy new one. I wrote the oldie with Front Page on a Windows 98 system and the new with KompoZer on Ubuntu.

Archived a couple stories, the first and the most recent of the stories that [personal profile] mackiedockie and I've written together.

Harlene

My friend and first beta [profile] methos_fan
passed away Tuesday from complications of Parkinson's Disease. There will be a
memorial Aug 28th at the Bahia Center. She is survived by her father, brother and nephew.

I had wanted to post more to you all while she was in the hospital, but she kept
telling me that she would tell you herself all about it when she was better.

Harlene loved the PWFC, and Peter, and working on the club's web pages. She
loved hiking and tai chi before her illness. She had a quirky sense of humor and
we loved to argue. I will miss her very much.

Oh, when I told her about Peter's new path she giggle and said, "Now he can say
I'm a doctor now, but I used to play one on TV."

She inspired my pen name here in fandom --

Compact Combo Post

Today is the day I officially loose my health insurance. Oddly enough I'm not too bothered, always been a bit fatalistic. Hey, I still have a job and get paid most of the time. Things will get better for all of us. Or they won't, and then we'll write edgy angst laden fiction and live in our heads. Speaking of which, Mackiedockie and I finished the first draft of a HL/Shelock crossover yesterday. Google docs is wonderful. You can watch each other write from whatever goat trail in the world you are at. It sorta feels like performance art. Certainly more entertaining than watching Harlan E. sitting in a store window typing. (Lets see what else can I cram in one paragraph.) My garden looks wonderful considering how late it was planted. OK, my world in a capsule. Be careful out there....

"The Grist Mill Fall" Highlander bit

I meant to post this a few months ago, time gets away from me. It's the first pages of the first draft of the holiday exchange Highlander story I wrote for Pat for 2010 that eventually became, "After the Fall." No one has read it. I chopped it off because it worked better without -- but it does have a bar scene with Joe so it can't be all bad:-) I'm not posting it elsewhere or archiving it.

Where the wind comes from?

We had a wind-thunder-lightening-rain storm this afternoon. Blew down a tall Leland cyprus in our yard. It did not drop quickly, but slowly over a ten minute period worked its way down as the wind beat on it and the saturated ground gave way. The root wad is only about four feet across, obviously too small to hold such a big tree in a persistent wind. So, Lelands aren't the ones to strap yourself to if you ain't going nowhere... They are a hybrid of the Monterey and Nootka Cyprus. They grow really fast, maybe too fast. I planted it in 96 and it was already 70 feet tall.

There is a clump of tulips in the root wad I'll try to save tomorrow after the wind has died. Electricity has been off and on.
